There have been hundreds of observational studies and clinical trials conducted to evaluate the effect of omega-3 fatty acids (n-3 FA) on CV disease (CVD) and its risk factors and intermediate markers. The n-3 FA are a group of long-chain and very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) that are substrates for the synthesis of eicosanoids and are important components of cell membranes that impact fluidity.
