(Uniform Resource Identifier)

Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a string of characters used to identify a resource either by location (URL), or a name (URN), or both (URL and URN). A URI has two specializations known as URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and URN (Uniform Resource Name). Popular Confusion: Most of the people have a confusion between URN and URL. URN is a resource name (file name or a resource name like ISBN number) and URI is an absolute location of a web resource (eg: http://example.com/index.html)
